Paul Clifford Stroup Sr.. LT, USN, Ret., 84, passed peacefully in his sleep October 4, 2009 after a brief battle with cancer. He was born February 20, 1925, in Williamsport, Pa., and was a 10-year resident of Nevada. Paul began his 25-year Naval career during World War II, performing submarine war patrols (Submarine Combat Insignia) and continued on to be a first crew member on the USS Nautilus (571). He was one of 10 in the U.S. Navy to first receive a chief operator license for nuclear reactors. Receiving his commission in Newport, R.I., in 1957, he continued on to surface craft, including the Forrest Sherman, Cadmus and Northampton. Prior to retirement in 1967, he was an engineering instructor at the U.S. Naval Amphibious School in Coronado, Calif. He then continued on to a career as a nuclear engineer with GE for 18 years. Paul was also a member of the VFW, American Legion, Sub-Vets and the Elks (50 years). Lt. Paul C. Stroup Sr. proudly served faithfully and honorably in the U.S. Navy and to America. He will be greatly missed by family, shipmates, friends and colleagues. He loved this country enormously. Paul is survived by his wife, of 63 years, Frances; three sons; one daughter; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 23, at the Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, in Boulder City. Donations can be made to any veterans organization or to the Alzheimer's Association.

Raymond Casey, 77, died in Arcadia, CA, October 8, 2009. He was born in Newark, NJ, March 15, 1932. He served in the US Navy Submarine Service during the Korean War 1952-1956. He is distinguished by a 28-year career as a Police Officer with Arcadia Police Department. He was an avid lawn bowler with the Santa Anita Bowling Green Club. He is preceded in death by his son Michael Casey and is survived by his brother Richard, sisters Barbara and Peggy, his wife Sharon, sons Dan (Julie), Scott (Annie), Ted (Beatriz), Steve, and daughter Kathryn Shelly (Chris) and grandchildren Rachel, Danielle, Michael, Christian, Biannca, Matthew, Jordan, Jacob, Jack, and Ryan. Memorial Mass 10 AM, Friday, October 16, 2009 at Annunciation Catholic Church, 1307 E Longden Ave, Arcadia, CA 91006. In lieu of flowers, the family suggiest a small contribution may be made in his memory to the Prader-Willi California Foundation, 514 N Prospect, Ste 110 Lower Level, Redondo Bch, CA 90277, www.pwcf.org, 800-400-9994, in honor of his grandson Ryan.

Beauford D. "Beef" Carlson, 87 of Edina, MN died October 7, 2009. Beauford was a graduate of Washburn High School and Dunwoody Institute. He served with the US Navy during WWII in the Submarine Service. He spent 4 years in active duty and retired from the Naval Reserve after 29 years with the rank of Chief Petty Officer. Beauford was a 60 year member of IBEW. Preceded in death by his loving wife of 40 years, Phebe. Survived by sons, Jeffrey (Virgene) of Minnetonka, Robert (Karen) of West St. Paul, David "Beef" (Janie) of Two Dot, MT; 4 grandchildren, Joshua (Amy), Erik (special friend Mariah), Ryan and Jason; brother, Victor (Marlys) of Eden Prairie; nieces, nephews and friends. Memorials preferred to Methodist Hospital for their cancer center and heart center. Interment Fort Snelling Cemetery. Funeral service 11 AM Tuesday with visitation 1 hour prior to the service. Laurence B. Hall, 84, died Oct. 7, 2009, at his home. He was born in Marlborough, Mass., and lived in Sebastian for 18 years, coming from Micco. He worked for Kelly Ford as a technician for 28 years. He served in the Navy during World War II as a submariner. He was a member of the Lions Club in Sebastian. Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Shirley F. Hall of Sebastian; sons, Gary Hall of Savannah, Ga., Mark Hall of Murphys, Calif., and Laurence B. Hall Jr. of Satellite Beach; daughter, Michelle Hall of Savannah; sister, Natalie Hall of Vero Beach; and three grandchildren. Memorial contributions may be made to VNA Hospice Foundation, 1110 35th Lane, Vero Beach, FL 32960, or to St. Sebastian Catholic Church, 13075 U.S. 1, Sebastian, FL 32958. Services: A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Oct. 13 at St. Sebastian Catholic Church in Sebastian. Arrangements are by Seawinds Funeral Home & Crematory, Sebastian.
