At random: The USS Blenny SS 324, on her last patrol of WW II sank 63 vessels. One by torpedo and 62 by deck gunfire, demolition charges set by boarding parties or by burning. On several occasions shotguns were fired through the boats bottoms. These were all vessels under the 500 ton JANAC limit for tonnage sunk and not counted in the "official" totals or ships sunk. This is also a record for the most vessels ever sunk by a submarine on one patrol.

Just for memories. Hoot was a great guy and a good friend.
Picture was taken at SEAL Muster part a few years back in Ft. Pierce, Fl.

I remember that "horrible" time when Hoot was in the hospital (with his heart problem) in Vegas when his wife was killed on the highway coming in from Pahrump to visit him!  That time has to be a definition of "getting through it" by a VERY strong man!  Always admired the guy to begin with, plankowner of SEAL Team #2 and a visiting SpecOp warrior on Sealion in those "days of yore"... DAMN Hoot, you are the MAN!

Hoot was also a plank owner and a qualified submariner on the George Washington. His second wife died of cancer and his third wife (much younger) is still alive. Hoot passed about a year ago. I only got to see him twice a year. Once a year at the Muster and oncea year at Roy Boehm's birthday party but times change. A little over ten years ago I gave Hoot one of the GI Joey SUBMARINE VETERAN hats and he gave me a SEAL TEAM hat and said "Wear this with pride." I said why would I want to wear that hat when I am a submariner. He just laughed. I miss his friendship.
