At random: Traditionally, United States submarines have been named after fish and other marine creatures. One exception was the Navy's first submarine HOLLAND which was named after its inventor, John Philip Holland. Today, ballistic missile submarines are named for famous American patriots, with the newest class, the OHIO class, named after states. The LOS ANGELES class of attack submarines are named for United States cities. The nations news class of submarine, the Virginia class, is also named for US States, making them the capital ships of the navy.

Must be some misinformation somewhere along the line with the Obit for Ciganovic. Serving aboard the 244 as a SOC with only 4 years service and at the age of 22 in '62 just doesn't add up right.

Families dont always have correct information concerning rate/rank etc. We should all write our own obit and include the information that we want published after we pass.

I have not written a whole obt, but have written a sheet with all the particulars of my service including awards not so much for an obt but for family history. I've also been making videos with oral histories about my family stories as I remember them and my early life growing up and what it was like. All this so the g-g-g(etc),nieces and nephews don't have to try and dig stuff out like my generation having to do now. I barely know anything about one set of grand parents and the Great GP are a total mystery.
