Maxwell George Robertson, 67, passed to his eternal life Oct. 3, 2009, in Athens. On Sept. 26, 1942, in Big Spring, "Max" was the first born to Rev. William Henry and Irene Pettus Robertson, both formerly of Brownsboro.Mr. Robertson attended Brownsboro High School until he joined the U.S. Navy in 1961. He later earned his GED while in the service. He retired in 1975 as a Quartermaster Chief Petty Officer which included serving in the Atlantic during the Vietnam War. His last tour of duty was aboard the submarine USS George Washington Carver out of Groton, Conn. After the service, Max earned an Associate of Applied Science degree from Henderson County Junior College and worked primarily in mechanical fields throughout the Athens area. He was a Christian and a member of the Leagueville Baptist Church.He married Michelle Stollwerk while stationed in 1973 in Bremerton, Wash. He will also be missed by his surviving two sons, Donald Robertson, of Mt. Vernon, Wash.; David Helde, of Yakima, Wash.; and two daughters, Jill Stollwerk, of Selah, Wash.; and Kimberly Quintanilla, of Meadow. He is also survived by one brother, Ronnie Robertson, of Texarkana; and one brother-in-law, Jim Sawyer, of Tyler; also, nephews and nieces, Jimmy Ray, Scott, Joel and Sara Sawyer and Keith Robertson; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents; and one sister, Teresa Sawyer, formerly of Tyler.Memorial services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 31 at Leagueville Baptist Church, officiated by Rev. Bill Watson. Arrangements are entrusted to Carroll-Lehr Funeral Home and military honors will be presented under the auspices of the Veteran of Foreign Wars District Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to the Leagueville Baptist Church building fund, 12081 FM 607 South, Murchison, Texas 75778 or Veteran of Foreign Wars District Honor Guard, 3091 County Road 4807 Athens, Texas 75752.
