Johnson Atoll, 725 SW of Hawaii, Operation Dominic, high altitude tests at relaxed GQ for tests and after getting orders to load all mounts with live ammo.........spent some of the spring, summer and fall involved in Operation Dominic, JTF-8. STARFISH, the last and biggest exo-atmospheric test was over right after Cuban Missile Crisis.......Lit up the whole night sky and stayed bright for more than half hour.....the old John S. McCain (DL-3). Four people on open bridge, CO, QMC, NASA photographer and me. As a young JG and GQOOD, I was expendable but I had a good view.........after that, we pretty much stopped doing EMP tests....
