At random: The first submarine which actually sank another enemy vessel under combat conditions was the CSS HUNLEY built during the Civil War. The Union frigate HOUSATONIC on blockade station off Charleston, S. C. was the victim. The incident occurred on February 17, 1864.

Hmmmmm.....pooped in my nappy for the 18 th day in a row? Kept my Mum and Dad awake for the 18th day in a row?Listened to my first Beatles song?....yeah, that must be it!

without looking it up, I am assuming it has something to do with the Bay of Pigs fiasco?

Not doing very well at St. John's University in NY academically, but I sure did enjoy being in sports, beer, and women.

Just got off the top side mid watch aboard the USS Balao north side pier 3 at Key West. On the other side of the pier was Pat Householder top side watch aboard the USS Chopper.

Little did we know that we would not get to sleep after we got off watch.

Digital Geo Ballistic Computer ~ The hard drive was a large drum! The remainder of the unit was discrete components (transistors, diodes, etc.) mostly mounted on circuit boards.

Part of the MK 84 Fleet Ballistic Missile Fire Control System located in the Missile Control Center.
However, you didn't ask?

0400-0800 topside watch on Atule, Key West ( too bad I didn't know Tim Spoon and Pat Householder at the time). I was in charge of seaman gang and we had watertight integrity broke all over the boat. What a mad scamble! "Trouble south, heading North" was our battle cry as the entire Subron 12 steamed (on the surface) north towards Charleston and Norfolk.

Let's see - I was 32 years old. I had an eleven-year-old daughter and a fifteen-month-old baby boy (born on the 4th of July). My husband was a police officer on the Rapid City Police Department. I hadn't yet gone back to school, so I was either cleaning house, cooking, or changing diapers. Or, playing with the cutest baby ever born. Well, one of the three cutest babies.

And, yes, I may have been glued to the radio or the television, wondering if we were headed for another war. However, if I'm remembering correctly, a lot of what was going on was not broadcast to the general public until it was resolved.

I was in New Orleans at the Airport, watching the Jets landing to re-fuel and then head SOUTHEAST.

Heady times but I guess I was too dumb to be scared.
