Pacific 01/16/82: Five U.S. Navy personnel die in a diving accident aboard the
USS Graybac(SS-574) off the coast of Subic Bay, Philippines.
my note: I have searched for more info and found nada, Were they seals?
1-16-1930 USS Lexington (CV 2) provides power to Tacoma, Wash., when floods knocked out city power plants.
my note: something doesnt seem right. How foes a carrier back feed at 440 volts to multiple substations to power a metropolis? Hhmmm Ric should remember this happening. Any power plant operators care to educate me. |

1930!!!! I'm not that old.
440 is a common power voltage for big buildings and industries.
My niece works for Tacoma Power I'll ask and see if she has ever heard of this. |

Didn't a Nuke sub provide power to a hospital in Hawaii after a storm? Not sure when or which, but I heard about it. Nothing ever confirmed. |

The USS Indianapolis (SSN 697) was sent to Kauai late Nov 1983 to jump start the only power plant there when it was knocked off line in hurricane Iwa. It was not used because the length of cables (miles) were prohibitive. |
